Emergency Service

We are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for emergencies.

Just call 815-675-1666 and listen to the options.  The call will then be transferred directly to the doctor on call for immediate service.

Things that are considered an emergency
or when to call the vet:

  • Colic signs like up and down, rolling incessantly, looking at flank and pawing the ground.
  • Lacerations through the skin level and uncontrollable bleeding.
  • Eyes swollen/tearing
  • Acute non weight bearing lameness or large swollen legs.
  • Not interested in food with an increased temperature above 101.

Normal Equine Vitals:

  • Temperature- 99-101
  • Pulse- 28-44 beats per minute
  • Respiration- 10-24 breaths per minute
  • Capillary Refill Time- Less than 3 seconds
  • Gut Sounds- Gas like growls/roars in all 4 quadrants
  • Mucous Membranes (Gums)- moist, healthy pink
